Sobre Assessment of the Current Status of Mangroves in Brazil

Brazilian mangroves — among the richest and most strategic ecosystems on the planet — are essential for biodiversity conservation, climate regulation, and the livelihood of thousands of families living along the coast. This publication, prepared by the BiomaBrasil Institute in partnership with Wetlands International Brazil/Mupan – Women in Action in the Pantanal, with the support of Wetlands International Global Office, presents a comprehensive and updated overview of the state of mangrove conservation in Brazil. Bringing together scientific, cartographic, and legal data, the study highlights the complexity and ecological importance of these environments, analyzing their functions, threats, and management priorities. The work reinforces the role of mangroves in mitigating climate change, maintaining biodiversity, and ensuring food security for coastal communities, while also proposing pathways for their protection and restoration.
