I Report on Islamophobia in Brazil

The purpose of the various studies included in this report was not simply to verify the existence of Islamophobia, which is defined as “fear of Islam” and which entails a feeling of hatred and/or repudiation towards Muslims and the Islamic religion, but also bring forward reflections that underlie this feeling of repudiation; themes that are often included in a perspective that simply projects “religious intolerance”, but that the quantitative research presented here precisely demonstrates other points that intersect: issues of class, race and gender, as well as propositions that involve conservative and traditionalist right-wing political positions, leading to the understanding of Islamophobia as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon.
