Sobre São Paulo Strategic Plan for Monitoring and Assessment of Marine Litter

Marine litter is a transversal, complex problem that expands over time. The São Paulo Strategic Plan for Monitoring and Assessment of Marine litter (PEMALM) aims to combine knowledge, engagement and interaction of key stakeholders to create a qualified information base and institutional capital to monitor and evaluate the problem of marine litter in the state of Sao Paulo. The publication consolidates an effort signed in the partnership between the Brazilian Fund for Biodiversity (FUNBIO), the UNESCO Chair for Ocean Sustainability, within the scope of the Institute for Advanced Studies and the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo, the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment of the State of São Paulo and the Norwegian Embassy. The plan also represents the contribution of various sectors of society to respond to the need to understand the problem of marine litter in the state and then to look for solutions to combat it.
